Thank you for all your effort on this Derek
Everyone on the list will receive an email with payment details prior to you having to pay
Failure to pay will not be tolerated, but I'm sure that wouldn't happen here.

Thanks Steve, I will collect fees on Saturday as said before, just have the right money with you (no change given )
Hopefully come the day the hard work will have happened, leaving me to chat drink and eat !!
If you (or anyone) has Freeman "boaty" photos/information manuals to peruse /information required/parts to sell etc bring them along, it will all make for an interesting weekend.
Derek

After a rubbish winter/spring...I'm commited, or should be! Be warned I have booked overnight mooring on the broads meet for 2 nights (Fri and sat). For this I need a boat and with the help of Tony (Tony tugboats boats.co.) gods bless him. I'm going to prise Fridays Child off the Thames for a week on to her former cruising ground, the broads. Any other broads Virgins up for the meet and staying on after up to the 29 July please give me a shout if you have any idea what you are doing. My knowledge of the broads:- it's wet and you can go north and south as well as east and west which is all you can do on the Thames. And after this little holiday..... the Thames meet work kicks in big time!

If its not infra dig to ask, could you at least indicate what it has to cost to ship (ha!) a boat from Thames to Broads and then presumably back again? I have simply no idea.

Well done Ken, making the supreme effort, perhaps I ought to reciprocate and bring Flittermouse to the Thames do instead of staying in the comfort of the Perch and Pike !
In truth this is impossible due to personal reasons
Look forward to seeing you again, and coming to your Thames do !

I believe that Tony's standard charge is £1 per return mile with a £350 minimum.Stephen wrote:If its not infra dig to ask, could you at least indicate what it has to cost to ship (ha!) a boat from Thames to Broads and then presumably back again? I have simply no idea.
He's offered a special rate for our meets, but you'll have to contact him directly (link at the bottom of the page) to find out how that would work for you.

In response to Stephen. This is a favour Tony is being kind enough to do for me. However I hope you cover his costs and buy him a meal so don't expect much change from about £300.00.On the plus side this for me is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to take my boat from one iconic waterway back to another iconic waterway which I believe my boat once resided on.
For Flitermouse. I'm sorry she won't be looking pretty. It's been a hard winter for both of us. But I can't wait it will be an adventure for which the boat the dog and myself should be wearing L pates. And as for the Thames meet and the Pearch and Pike comfort a few trips on Fridays Child will convince you that you have made the right choice.

Not an impossible price for anyone really. You'd easily spend that p.p. on almost any holiday and for a once-in-a-while experience rather exciting. I wonder how many members would ever consider a temporary relocation or who have done it?

One of the boats that will be at the Braods meet this year will be transported, they also had a Thanes holiday a few years ago.Stephen wrote:Not an impossible price for anyone really. Hopefully Anne will also be at the meet. I have quite a tight deadline to get her back to the Thames, if she doesn't make it, we'll be slumming it in the tent.

We are very close to reaching capacity of Salhouse mooring If you want to bring your boat, get in quick
I'll mention this here first, and then post on social media in 48 hours.

Whoah - takeover! Where will all the plastic bathtubs go?!! Hopefully the "reserved" signs will be clear enough & no interloper will be tempted to pinch any of the slots!Admin wrote:We are very close to reaching capacity of Salhouse mooring If you want to bring your boat, get in quick

The Friday moorers will have to stand guard !!
Salhouse have said they will cone /tape off/ sign our reservations, but off course we have a lot more for Saturday than Friday. I will take that up with the Rangers
We will be on the same side as before, so the "bathtubs" will have to use the "beach" moorings..... bring your shotguns

You're not kidding Ken, the Broads is not the sedate, civil experience you're used to on the upper Thames. I've rented boats on the broads for years, until about 2008, not really cared about the rentals. Last year I was lucky enough to be loaned a boat that I could only treat as if it was my own...I was bloody terrified! No locks, so that bit was easy, Ive never had to navigate through a swarm (probably wrong word) of day boats before! with hire boats coming down both sides of the river racing for the next mooring.

Well put Pat. When Jon & I took Wigeon down about 7 years ago, he couldn't believe how busy it was after the river Witham. I knew what it was like having grown up in Norfolk (& also sailed on the Broads) but for Jon, it was a complete shock!

Spent much of the weekend watching countless hire boats racing to moorings that just were not there...... why do the leave it to the last minute to rush to the busy places (pub close by)
one of the joys of owning your boat is you can put the mud weight out and sit and drink your choice of poison while they all rush around like headless chickens

Much quieter on the Southern rivers, that's part of the charm. I know it's said the south is boring with miles of reed beds, few small broads off the main rivers and fewer pubs, but if your in a maddening crowd nowhere is much fun

UPDATE
Hi all
Due partly to the success of the numbers attending this years meet it has been decided it would be wrong to rely one person bringing a BBQ , therefore if you want to have a bbq bring your own or decide a group amongst yourselves.
Secondly, and this is for the lucky people mooring up Friday, i have spoken to the Ranger, who will cordon off enough space for 8 to10 from after 10am.
Saturday we will have the exclusive use of the "Hill moorings" again from after10am, the area we used last year ! (No need for shotguns )
