Northern Broads meet 14-16 July 2017 Empty Salhouse meet July 2017

Dear Flittermouse,    I have only just joined this esteemed group of Freeman Owners and trying to sort my way through this website system. Hopefully you will receive this message!  You have mentioned the meeting at Salhouse this summer which,as I am located in Hoveton, would like to attend for one of the days ie Saturday July15.  We would wish to come in our Freeman 22 Raebec and therefore require a mooring space. Can you advise me on the procedure I need to follow?   Incidentally, I see you are a follower of the art of RC model flying.  Should I bring my twin engined  flyingboat?  [only kidding!]   I will be most grateful for any advise you can give re booking and methods of payment.  Thanks.  Regards Clipped Wing Flyboy.

Post by F23 flittermouse - RIP Mon Feb 06, 2017 11:12 pm

Hi CWF if l may shorten it to this to ease my tired digits !

Of course we would welcome you to the Salhouse meet, as Prof has said, follow this page and the instructions that will follow shortly, you can also find a bit of the early planning here.
 https://freeman-cruisers.forumotion.co.uk/t1123-norfolk-broads-events-2017

Booking and payment instructions will follow the registration form available soon, prepayment nearer the date will be needed to secure a mooring.
This all sounds so official, its not supposed to, but we do need accurate numbers and information.
We look forward to seeing you in July if not before on the rivers
A lot of people use their boat name as their Avatar, so have a look at the member list, (tab at the top of the page) you'll probably see some you may recognise on the river.
Again welcome to the world of classic boating, Once a Freeman owner, always a Freeman owner ?

Northern Broads meet 14-16 July 2017 Empty Salhouse meet in July.

Post by Clipped Wing Flyboy Tue Feb 07, 2017 4:13 pm

Thanks one and all for the welcome and info.  I will keep an eye on the forum for further instructions.  Give us a toot if passing our place in Hoveton.  You will see Raebec F22 and my Drascombe Dabber in our dock on the north side of the Bure just before the  dyke up to Summercraft Boats.  I see that there has been quiet a long debate reference fitting an alternative to the gear stick.  We purchased Raebec late last summer and I found that I had to vacate my seat to obtain astern, as using my right foot is not an option.  I obtained a conversion kit from Sheridan Marine for price of £630 and it seems to work OK but time will tell. It is a single lever positioned to the left of the helm. I still have a throttle that I pull BACK! for take off, after 40 years of pushing Forward on the throttles of every aircraft I flew. Anyone want to bet how long before I push it the wrong way and end up on my lawn? However,I will see if I can get used to it this summer. I still think that it is a great boat and enjoy it immensely.  Regards CWF.

OK all, here we go again !  Norfolk Broads Salhouse is next on the calander.
If it wasnt for you these events would be nothing, So its no good deluding myself I'm doing a good job on organisation if nobody turns up !!
Each year we have just about doubled the numbers from the previous year, but I think its a tall order to repeat that in 2017 with 27 coming in 2016 Rolling Eyes AND if we did manage to, I'm not sure we would all fit in !

Don't let that stop you putting your name to the list, a fine weekend is planned and with my record for good weather standing at 95% we are virtually guaranteed hot days ( Hope this isn't a bit like a party manefesto, promise the earth, deliver nothing !!)

Seven weeks and counting....... flower

Thanks Steve, I'm going to find out for sure if a lump sum pre payment to The Salhouse group is required or not. It has been in the past.

Slightly embarrassed myself at Beccles by collecting the fees only to be told on the day individual fees were the accepted norm (I was told differently when l made the initial enquiry !)

The events tab at the top of any Forum page opens the booking form as before, it is visible to non members, and it gives me (or whoever is organising the particular event) all the information needed including contact details for any last minute changes that may happen.
Of course we will always get some visitors that neither book or prepay, they are chancing their luck there will be room, so far they have been lucky. If we got more than say 35 mooring requests we may have to cap numbers, OR make a second row !?!?

Pleased your bringing your Mk1 again, these iconic little cruisers were the start of the marque and are pretty as a pin when restored, yours and Lady Liz show the best of the type.

With next weekend (10th) being the Radcot do, l will hold off full blown drum beating until that one is over. Enough just to remind you to use the booking form in the 'Events' tab at the top of all pages to register your interest. This gives us mooring numbers for booking and importantly contact details to keep you updated if any last minute changes happen.

So enjoy your cruising, see you at Salhouse.... Hopefully !!

Before we get too excited about the Thames meet, don't forget he Norfolk Broads northern  event at Salhouse July 14-16 2017.
Only just over four weeks to go   Shocked
:

I have placed a post in the Norfolk Broads Forum with an invite to attend our meet, any Freeman owners past, present or future that have been disappointed by the cancellation of their event later this month at Ranworth Island.

If people want a raffle this time, may I suggest prizes are donated by members. I don't feel I can approach Sheridan Marine again this close to the Beccles event ,where they did send some nice prizes FOC.
Anything Freeman themed  particularly welcome ( The odd pair of freshly chromed Nav lights , a matching set of Freeman wine glasses for instance Very Happy )
If you have anything you feel could be a raffle prize please PM me with details of what you are donating first. I will contact you to confirm delivery/ collection instructions

Booking/ registration for mooring as before (tab at top of page)
Spaces may be limited, get your booking/registration in early Captain

If you are planning to use Tonytugboats to transfer your boat by road, can you please get in touch ASAP as he has some planning to do.

If you are contemplating it, I can say from personal experience, that Tony makes it all very stress free and for Freeman owners attending events, extremely reasonable as he does it at cost Smile

Hi lovely Freeman owners !
I have been messaging/ emailing people today to get their registration/booking for Salhouse in in the next few days. I'm pleased to say the response has been good. If l haven't sent you a reminder and you want to be there please fill in the form that opens when you hit the tab "EVENTS" at the top of every page. (Assuming you haven't already registered !)

https://freeman-cruisers.forumotion.co.uk/portal

I will be talking to The Salhouse team about numbers and payment next week, and it would be nice to have everyone  included who wants to come.
It's looking like another successful meet, thanks to those who have already responded.

See you there !!!!!

Post by Simritdave Wed Jun 28, 2017 4:34 am

Derek, Thistledew (Peter and a Gloria) are planning to be there, however, I don't believe they come on the forum.
I might see them this weekend, in which case, I'll confirm with them and let you know for sure.

Thanks Dave, can you ask if they are coming, if they would be prepared to bring a small something for the raffle as l won't approach Sheridan this soon after the Beccles meet.

Just so you are aware, l will be sending an email a few days before the  event to all known attendees with latest information on such things as mooring, pay on the day, sharing BBQ's and said raffle prize request.(Being able to contact people with up to date information is why registration is important !)
The item doesn't have to be Freeman related, even boat related, and value isn't relevant, whatever is affordable and definitely not more than £5 !!Thanks Derek.

I have today emailed the Ranger at Salhouse with the list of boats I know are coming to Salhouse for the meet.

I have also included about 6 or 7 boats that the owners have expressed interest in coming, but not booked a secure mooring yet.

Although this doesn't preclude them from attending they need to make themselves known to the Ranger or myself for payment purposes.

only 9 days to go !!

Today boats start arriving for the third Freeman gathering at Salhouse. Each year we have improved on the previous year for boat numbers, and this year it's looking as if this tradition will be maintained with 27 confirmed, plus we always attract boats that drop in on spec.

So please moor tidily stern on only, (with possibly 2 exceptions ONLY IF ROOM PERMITS who contacted me in advance due to special reasons) as we need to get everyone in !
The weather is forecast warm with possible light showers Saturday, improvement for Sunday,so let's all enjoy the company of fellow Freeman people with chat, nosing in at others boats, catching up and generally having a fun weekend. Derek

With 23 boats lined up, the Quay heading at Salhouse looked decidedly full, so in a way it's a good thing that three boats called off late Friday with either work commitments or engine trouble and a further three were no shows reason unknown at present.
For those that came, l know a great time was had, myself included. I have no photos to post, I'll leave it to the pros, looking on Facebook some pretty impressive shots were taken !
Thank you all that came, that you made it and enjoyed it more than compensated for the effort of the organisation.

The raffle of donated prizes made a total of £110 which is being sent to the RNLI today.
Thank you so much for your  generosity in first donating the (mostly liquid !! must say something ??) prizes, and then digging deeper to raise the above sum
THANK YOU.   [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Despite loud  protestations, the Freeman used to show the prizes was not included in the raffle, and neither was the owners idea that it all was a welcoming present for a new attendee !! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Well done Derek, by all accounts you organised a fantastic weekend.

We just wish we could have been there Sad

As it happened, it all kicked off on Friday night and I was making bits to run on the car at 10:00 on Saturday, that I didn't take out of the machine until 07:30 that morning. Thankfully the A43 traffic gods smiled on us
