Norfolk Broads events 2017
GET YOUR 2017 DIARIES READY !!
I have made early contact with Salhouse to provisionaly book our annual meet, date to be confirmed but mid/end July 2017. We had 27 boats for 2016, we can't better that.... can we ?
I have also made a provisional booking for a new event .....drum roll.......May "shake down" meet at Beccles Yacht Station especially for the Southerner's who feel left out !! ...plus interlopers from the Northern rivers welcome and not forgetting the ever faithful Thames boys Oh sh*t .....Cambridgites ...River Ouse..... xxxxx.....and anyone else that knows me as they say on the radio.
This as the title suggests will be in MAY 2017 (not Bank Holiday) so please try and get to this inaugural meet and make it as successful as the Salhouse do ! Good facilities, up to 30 boats, shore power if required, showers, toilets etc
BYS details:. http://www.yachtstation.co.uk/beccles-moorings/
This is an early "heads up"warning... Final dates and arrangements of both these events will be published as the organisation progresses, so watch this space for details as they pan out.

I'm hoping to take PG to both. I know I will be in Houston first week of May, but provided it's mid month on, I should be good.

The day is not a problem.... its the two weeks before to get the boat round the Norfolk coast that is the problem. I'm not sure that I can keep an illness going that long!!!! Might have to develop a plan 'B'

Make it a relay. We'll all have a go at skippering your boat for a day while you sit at work worrying about it

You are all nuts!!! There is no one in the world I would trust to skipper my boat as bad as me!!! My incompetence knows no bounds!!
Plan B is in its early days of development.......
As any skint Yorkshire man knows, this can only be done on a shoe string budget....... there is no point in wasting money on this adventure. Most of my money goes on women, beer and fags.... its only the little bit that is left that I can waste on boating.
Through my network of evil spies, I have almost secured a free mooring on the Broads.... its up Potter way, but beggars can't be choosers. The cunning plan is to take the boat round to the Broads over the late May Bank holiday week. (half term) Abandon the boat in Norfolk with a full years licence (once you have paid a month, you may as well go for the year) It's a lot to waste on a licence, but there is no other way....... and stay legal. This will then give me the weekends to play on the Broads.... dodge the hire boats.
Then......
As soon as School's out for summer (could be a good title for a song......) I can be round to Salhouse in a jiffy, for the meet, then away for the summer...... the plan is to head for foreign shores..... France or Holland. Probably Holland 'cause I like the culture more..... a few weeks on the canals and rivers, then back across to Blightly and home.
There may well be opportunities for clean living folks to tag along as crew, if you can put up with an alcoholic skipper that snores loudly and farts in the night that is. I ain't paying you, or your train fare. If we get arrested by customs or kidnapped by pirates it 'aint nofink to do wiv me. You will be expected to cook, wash up (and wash!) occasionally. You may even be expected to stand your round in the bar. But there will be no charge for the elegant pleasures of my company or the diesel we burn. You will also not be held responsible for the hole we will punch in the ozone layer!!
I will provide an in date automatic lifejacket, you will need a passport.
Applications to the skipper..... priority will be given to good looking boating women under 25 years old. Send photo........... of boat.

Re: Norfolk Broads events 2017
We'll be aiming for the Beccles meet this year
Along with a fondness for attending Freeman meets and talking to everyone about their boats and various pets, Katie is rather partial to going racing. Silverstone was due to be the weekend before Salhouse, but has been moved to the same weekend. Katie's ticket has been preordered and costs more than moving the boat to the broads so that's that. Fortunately I don't have to pay for my ticket
If she's lucky dad will have to make another emergency delivery to the pitlane

Re: Norfolk Broads events 2017
Hi all,
We're new owners of a Freeman 23 on the broads, is it an open invitation that includes newbies? If so we'd love to come along to the Beccles meet
(if we can get across Breydon) and meet other owners if only to see what "mods" people have made.

Welcome from me too !
Don't forget if you can't cross Breydon to get to Beccles, the Salhouse meet as well which is later in the year.
I will be posting more details on both as things develop.

Re: Norfolk Broads events 2017
Thanks for the welcome.
I'm sure we can get across Breydon, just weve never done it. But if we can we'll try to do the Salhouse meet as well. We plan to spend as much time on the water as we can next year. Although we need to find a decent mooring, and as we're in Norwich we quite fancy the Southern Broads so suggestions welcome. We've got a little 17' sail boat at Stalham and been offered a berth there but we think its a bit tight.

Re: Norfolk Broads events 2017
Sometime next month ADMIN will be putting a ENTRY FORM tab at the top of the page to register for the three events planned this year (so far !)
It might seem OTT but please bear with us..... we need the lead name, name and model of boat, the number of crew and names (for name tags), arrival and departure and whether just day or overnight moorings are required. For Beccles there is also a limited option for electric hook up (Probably overnighter's only)
A contact telephone and email will be needed to update participants.
There may be a limit of available places, Salhouse last year wouldn't take too many more boats ! For Beccles, we shall have to see what the uptake is like, but we have to inform fairly early (and pay) to confirm numbers.
The cost for moorings/hook ups at Beccles only and Salhouse still has to be sought, and this will be on the form when it becomes available.
The entry form will form a binding agreement to pay prior to the event for those bringing boats, method yet to be stated, but probably Paypal to either me or Prof Pat Pending will be one option.
The May Beccles Meet is a new venue so it is hoped many will book up and we can make it an annual Southern event
Of course even if you can't make it with your boat, you will still be welcome, so come on you Freeman owners, come along, see what others have done , be nosy ,make friends, have a BBQ sausage (hopefully) and generally a good time

Re: Norfolk Broads events 2017
Somewhat regrettably, this year we have to say that moorings won't be booked on your behalf until upfront payment has been received
Re: Norfolk Broads events 2017
Note: There is NO communal BBQ, please if you bringing food to cook, buddy up with someone who has brought along a BBQ for their own use. Knowing most of the people that will be there, I'm sure that won't be a problem, thanks !!
