New Boat. Yo Ho Ho. Etc.
Hi all
Just picked up my new toy last weekend.
1971 F23 named "String of Pearls"* Based at Stalham so Northern Broads exploring here we come!!
Its a solid enough boat with lots of original fittings and enough woodwork to keep me varnishing for decades.
Next project is to start researching electrics and sort out the spaghetti that has been thrown into the cupboard.
I have loads of questions already and will almost certainly be asking them on a regular basis.
Regards

I can help with a wiring diagram for a 22 if you need one, but it won't be much different.

Welcome
Enjoy it while you can this season, start figuring out the electrics when the weather isn’t so nice

There is a diagram!!! Does it show where all the green/silver wires go? I have red ones, brown ones and the rest seen to be all the same colour. Except where it goes from a switch to a green/silver to a red to a blue back to green/silver then to yellow and finally disappears behind the bulkhead. Its very random but quite exciting.

Welcome to the fold. I'm almost two years into my ownership now and if you want to see what I did have a
look here....

As regards the wiring, I found the best thing to do was pull most of it out and replace it with new cables and a modern fuse box. Removing the binnacle make the job a lot easier.

That looks exactly what I envisage mine will look like.
Although in reality it will be more like a very tangled ball of wool.

Welcome to the F23 fold. We love ours to bits and she is the prefect boat for our needs.
This is a fantastic forum and my many questions are always answered from real knowledge and experience. A fantastic resource and I would be really stuck without the help of the folk on here.

Especially re the wiring pictures, I may be mistaken in remembering I was privileged to be invited into Nick's Trump at Datchet soon after they bought it. The wiring was outstandingly impressive, along with every other feature of the boat! A photo of the wiring compartment would be a great inspiration to anyone so planning .... Hope I'm right!

I would love to take Stephen's compliment but I don't think that it was meant for me . My wiring is ok but not worthy of special praise. I respectfully suggest that maybe the compliment should be aimed towards Pat and his former F23 Anne?
If nobody else claims the kind compliment please can I have it anyway?

Re: New Boat. Yo Ho Ho. Etc.
I think you're really too modest. Again, if I correctly remember, you were moored at Datchet waterfront. An elderly man claiming to own a Freeman approached you expressing admiration and having removed his shoes was invited to inspect the interior of your immaculate boat! I think you were en-route to your mooring that day. There were details that put my own custodianship to shame and hence recollection. Of course if you and your wife (and the boat) were not at Datchet as described and this never happened I've got it wrong, but its the unfortunate Trump name that's brought it back!
