Re: Nice woody
Suede has been on and off the market for years. There was an article in MBO a few years ago where a retired couple has bought her...after that was written, they pulled out. She stayed for sale at Ting Dene for quite a while. She was always a lovely looking boat, but I believe previous owners have had more than their fair share of problems.
As for the interior fit out, someone needs shooting

I agree with comments at my boat yard their is a 45 foot broom that a chap called Dave is renovating he says it is worth £100000.00 having seen this boat and the price i believe him, i will post pictures out of interest this boat was rescued from a rotten wreck you just have to admire the skill in rebuilding her
Re: Nice woody
Agree as well, lovely looking outside but shame about the interior fit out, bet it was lovely woodwork originally.

I'm on the boat and running out of data, but there might be some pics in the September 2014 issue of motorboat owner.

More likely a labour of love. Done it because he can and there lies his pleasure. He could afford a better car by the look of it if he hadn't embarked (nice word!) on this expensive time-consuming obsession.
I'm too cynical in old age. I'd want a boat to use, not to flog my guts out trying to make it into one and kidding myself about the value. And probably boring to his loved ones.
When finished - if ever - it will be old-fashioned, uncomfortable, and cost a fortune to upkeep. Is it worth it?
Here is a similar top of the range of the period, in claimed mint condition, asking £30k and ready to use!

Re: Nice woody
Steve like you i would not take it on to old nor would have i raised the Marie rose or the titanic some times ones passion is not counted in money but achievement he maintains a broom commander sold for £80000.00 last year anyway my point is has i have watched it progress and seen the skill and knowledge involved i can only admire him
Re: Nice woody
If there were only two ever built then Pat's must be the other one. At £40K immaculate. I would never want a boat refurbished from a neglected wreck in favour of a cherished boat from day one and fully equipped with the bits and pieces a boat collects and most owners hand on.
I know I'm being contentious and genuinely without having the slightest wish to offend, but unless your friend owned the boat advertised I think he is another dreamer. Yards are full of them and their tedious half finished "projects". Something about boats that attracts foolishness, like people who buy a whole boat on Ebay without seeing.
I know posts can be marked up. Can they also be marked down, in which case mine is probably a candidate in some eyes! Sorry!

This boat was in Thames and Kennet marina in the late nineties on the hardstanding. You could push your finger through the hull in various places and I thought it was a gonner.
Someone with skill and determination restored it.
Now it's admired wherever it goes.
I think it was worth it!

Thank you Thomas no Pat he is not a fisherman the commander is stunning and that is what i said to dave everyone will turn their heads when this is completed the photos do not do it justice yet to be varnished and of course the top of the boat completed the way i see it something like this serves two purposes one the joy of rebuild two for many years people will be able to see a another classic boat is that not why we own freemans
ps would i have spent another £3500.00 on my 22 or just sold and brought another boat i hope freeman boats are around in another hundred years i think john freeman deserves it

Further details from 2014

When I was ten my father hired a boat on the thames called Maid Marguerita. It was a Broom Admiral 42 footer. Hence my interest in this type of craft. It was a fabulous boat and I loved every minute of it.

Still a lovely boat Pat but hate the portable toilet ever since the days i hired a cruiser from Walton on Thames in the 70s went up to oxford cannot remember where anyway went to empty our wast into a big round concrete trough yes you can probably guess what happened i was young full of energy throw the wast in it then it whisked round the bowl and came right back at me have a sea toilet and tank on my boat do not want to be reminded of that all the time mind you the rest of the people waiting where amused made their day
