BENT PROP
has I write this I can not believe it myself coming out of St Ives lock we hit something which has bent the prop I was not steering but I can not blame Tony. There were no signs of anything wrong with good flow nothing showing I informed the EA who for once on the ball contacted me for an ariel photo which I sent via Google maps this happened to me 6 years ago on another part of the river. I think Iwill claim insurance this time as a friend of mine said why have insurance and not use it
ps I suppose I can clean up and paint the boat underneath why she is out of the water

Re: BENT PROP
Hopefully the insurer's will cover the cost, get a nice new shiny prop, also check the propshaft. Take advantage by checking the log shaft, shaft gland and cutlass bearing when out of the water

Re: BENT PROP
Reported to Navigation and General MONDAY AND TODAY WEDNESDAY told to ger an estimate you cannot beat that well-done NAVIGATION AND GENERAL
Further to your call to the claims team, we have registered a claim under reference, kindly quote this in all future correspondence.
In order that we may consider the claim further, could you please provide a brief description of the incident along with at least one written estimate for the repair of the damage, or its replacement if this is not possible? We will also require some photos showing all the damage. Depending on the estimated cost we may wish to appoint a surveyor to inspect the damage on our behalf prior to the repairs proceeding.
Once we have full details of the claim we will be able to confirm the applicable excess, cover and next steps.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: BENT PROP
whatever happened to the insurer doing all the work when making a claim? same with car insurance, do this, do that, then contact us... Im sorry Ive paid my premium for you to solve my problems when they occur, not for me to do unpaid work for you... tell them to sort it all out, its not your job.

Re: BENT PROP
I have had the report and only the prop is damaged it appears that there was a trunk or a big branch of a tree
under the water, I have been told that at least 6 or more boats have been damaged

Good news then, hope you're not land based too long.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.],whilst I agree with your sentiment the owner may be able maximise the claim whereas an assessor may just authorise the minimum ?

Re: BENT PROP
Well I have had the estimated £1445 most of that is lifted out twice and put back twice £800 and £150
take off and replace the propellor all money dealings between boatyard and insurer except £75 access
charge. I have had confirmation and photo's from the EA about a tree being found below St Ives lock with scuff marks
on it which could have been from a propellor all this was sent to the Insurence Company
ps propellor £445
I am glad I reported within the hour to the EA

Re: BENT PROP
Navigation and General have upheld the claim I have to say they have been brilliant and very very quick in my opinion 10 out of 10

New Prop is being fitted today from a company that is specialising in FREEMAN PROPELLORS
It appears the damaged prop was not the correct one according to the company

Re: BENT PROP
Great news you have got it sorted John.
This insurance malarkey is a “money go round” though isn’t it? Those lifting fees - eye watering. I think I’m getting a bit tight as I age!

Re: BENT PROP
The lift out fees, astronomical ! Our boats get lifted out ( winter) and put back ( spring) and hardstand storage for less than £200. Ok I get its a one off John, and I am talking my boatyard doing 40+ on the same day but as long as the insurance company are picking up the tabMinerva wrote:Great news you have got it sorted John.

Re: BENT PROP
Hi Everyone
Prop fixed new one in place took her out for a trail run yesterday and she ran beautifully, she seemed to run much more smoothly and steady I noticed when we turned the water seemed to overlap like waves. We pulled into Hartford Marina for a celebration beer and as we left a chap sitting on his boat remarked your boat is very silent so maybe the lady was right saying the original prop was the wrong one

Re: BENT PROP
I had a word with mark at the boat yard and he said the prop was a 14-inch pitch instead of a 15-inch pitch
would that make a difference over to you Derek

I think the consensus is 14D X 14P for a 23 on an 1100 crossflow Watermota, well that's what's on mine, but of course yours is a 22 !

Re: BENT PROP
14 x 14 on both 22 and 23 with a 2:1 reduction regardless of engine capacity
9” prop on the 610s with no reduction (not sure of pitch on those)
