Leisure battery
I need a new leisure battery as i dropped mine in the garage and it is leaking. The current battery is 110AH and is 10 years old. We have a fridge but no shore power as yet although its on the list.
What should I look for in a replacement and are there any particular brands that are more suitable than others?
Thanks
Nick

Re: Leisure battery
I had two leisure batteries stolen from the boat 5 years ago. I was loathed to buy new ones. I have a friend with a garage who regularly services and maintains motor homes for a large dealer. When the motor homes have been stood a while and the batteries go flat then get sold, more often than not the company just fits new batteries. I got two 110ah bosch batteries FOC, trickle charged them back up and have used them consistently since with my Weaco fridge. Might be worth a visit to your local garage/motor home dealer, and see if they have any knocking about.

Re: Leisure battery
Hi Jed - thanks and I just checked the battery and I note that Alpha Batteries supplied mine to the previous owner so I will give them a try first. Their prices do look competitive.Jed wrote:I use alpha batteries Rochdale for mine and they will courier.

Re: Leisure battery
I have a mighty expensive engine battery I bought from MEC ....110AH which is fine and only does starting duty. The leisure is completely abused and is a lowly Halfords job. Hell its on a 5 year guarantee and there’s little chance of it making that (keep the receipt!) Hence it’s not going to make it so should get a free one soon after I done a few more fridge deep discharges on it. Don’t beat yourself up over it... leisure batteries are like Spanish donkeys. They take a lot of abuse and don’t need to be great! Spend the money on the engine starter!

Lol ...Tony A gave me the tip on Halfords 5 yr guarantee. Just remember to keep the receipt because the only good thing about them is the guarantee!

Re: Leisure battery
Thanks all. I have looked on Halfords website and now only a 2 year guarantee offered on leisure batteries.
They have got wise to you lot

Re: Leisure battery
, I reckon if you run it down with the fridge regularly you could still just squeeze into two years! But you need to be aggressive and treat it bad! Be lax about the keeping topped up! the challenge is on!

Re: Leisure battery
Anyway you know what Halfords is like, full of kids, if you take it back they have no means of testing it, and “cold cranking amps” is more likely to be the name of a band than anything to do with your leisure battery!
