Hi everyone! I'm new on here as we bought a Freeman mk1 last week. The previous owner bought it believing it is a mk1 built 1957 and was literally the 2nd one built. He expects us to keep it all original but I'd like to know if there is a way to verify that it is 1957 and not the 1970's like I think it may be. Any ideas?

Well first off, they stopped making Mk 1 in1963, the engine fitted will give some clue, I believe earliest had parsons, then vedette, then ford in varying sizes.  Sheridan marine may well have her listed on their database with hull number. You may be able to find the makers plate inside the electric cupboard.  Telling us her name and where shes from would help.  Window configuration can also give us a clue.  But she ain't seventies  Very Happy

But finally, welcome to our world.

Also, could I observe, you have bought it, its yours so do with as you wish, the "keep it original" message has been bleated so often on here, there was no "original" because every boat was hand built and thus unique. Original fuel tanks fail the boat safety scheme, original wiring is now 60 years old and will be corroded, these boats can be cherished and improved whilst still keeping faith.  Fairly certain John Freeman would have used modern stuff, like circuit breakers in place of fuses had they been invented.  Our canopy is a completely different design to original because the original was a bad design. (unless you enjoy squeezing through a ridiculous triangular gap in the pouring rain) .   Enjoy your boat
